The Fort Worth Museum of Science & History has forged a groundbreaking journey to revolutionize its visitor experience and stimulate audience engagement for decades to come. By leveraging Cosm’s CX System, an end-to-end immersive technology stack boasting LED dome display technology, immersive software, and an ecosystem of immersive content, Fort Worth Museum is transforming its 23-meter Omni IMAX Theater into a next-generation immersive LED dome: “The Jane & John Justin Foundation Omni Theater,” powered by Cosm Technology.
Reinforcing the Fort Worth Museum of Science & History’s role as an educational cornerstone for the Dallas-Fort Worth community, this transformation marks the world’s first LED digital dome of its size in a museum and positions the Museum as a global leader in visual technology.
Opened in 1983, the Fort Worth Museum's Omni Theater has long been a pillar of the Dallas-Fort Worth community, utilizing its IMAX projection technology to educate and entertain more than 10 million visitors. Guests of the museum theater were taken on a "Fort Worth Flyover" before exploring the world around them through documentaries and Giant Screen films. In line with its mission to engage diverse audiences through creative and vibrant programs and exhibits, the Museum embarked on a bold technological modernization project.
Harnessing Cosm's LED Dome Solution
The Museum's aging Omni Theater was due for a much-needed modernization in today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, and it was looking for solutions to a handful of challenges.
- Declining visitor numbers due to outdated programming
- Waning educational impact from existing experiences lacking depth and immersion
- Competing with streaming and other entertainment options available at home
- Inefficient processes and capabilities for creating custom and interactive multi-disciplinary experiences
With Fort Worth Museum’s former Omni IMAX Theater closed from aging equipment, the Museum began exploring avenues for a transformational leap forward and identified Cosm’s CX System LED dome solution.
Key Features:
- 23m LED Dome: World's first LED dome of its size in a museum – seamlessly covering the entire dome surface
- 8K+ Resolution: Ultra-high resolution imagery
- Flexible content production tools: Digistar Planetarium software and Unreal Engine integrations for in-house, custom content creation
- Interactive elements: Real-time rendering capabilities for interactive & timely experiences
- Brightness, contrast, longevity: Significant improvements from the former projection display, outputting 30-40 times more brightness & virtually eliminating cross-bounce
- Uniform & seamless content: Calibration and blending software that addresses each individual LED in the display
